North Carolina wide receiver Andre Greene Jr. will enter the transfer portal, he announced on Saturday.

Greene is a former 4-star prospect from UNC’s 2022 recruiting class. Despite the high pedigree as a prospect, Greene was never able to carve out a significant role in UNC’s wide receiver rotation.

Here’s his announcement:

“To my teammates, thank you for pushing me, challenging me, and inspiring me to be better each day,” Greene wrote in-part. “I love y’all and I will forever cherish the memories we shared.”

Greene was the No. 74 overall player and the No. 11 wide receiver in the country for the class of 2022, per 247Sports Composite rankings. The Richmond native was also considered to be the No. 3 player from the state of Virginia.

In two seasons with the Tar Heels, Greene caught five passes for 43 yards and one touchdown. His lone score came last season as a true freshman.

North Carolina could look to replace Greene and other out-going wide receivers in the transfer portal this offseason. Elsewhere offensively, the Tar Heels have already secured a commitment from former Texas A&M quarterback Max Johnson.

The transfer portal will officially open for underclassmen on Monday, Dec. 4.
