North Carolina moved up into the “Last four byes” section of Joe Lunardi’s latest bracketology update on Saturday night.

The move comes after the Tar Heels picked up a Quad 1 victory at Virginia Tech on Saturday afternoon. Here’s Lunardi’s latest breakdown:

That was North Carolina’s first Quad 1 win of the season. However, it still has two more chances to add one to its résumé. If Michigan can get into the top 30 of the NET rankings, then UNC’s win over the Wolverines from back in December will qualify as Quad 1. UNC also plays Duke on the road on March 5.

It was an important bounce-back win after UNC dropped a game to Pitt at home last week. That was its first loss outside of Quad 1 this season.

The Tar Heels’ path to the NCAA Tournament is crowded, but it’s still very possible if they can finish the regular season on a strong note. Making a long run in the ACC Tournament wouldn’t hurt, either.

North Carolina is one of five ACC teams currently projected to make the Field of 64. Virginia and Virginia Tech are on the bubble, but would likely need a lot of help between now and Selection Sunday.

UNC faces Louisville on Monday night.
