North Carolina offensive coordinator Phil Longo is moving on, according to a report.

That’s per The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman, who reports that Longo is leaving Chapel Hill to take the same job at Wisconsin. Feldman said Longo’s relationship with new Wisconsin head coach Luke Fickell played a role in the decision.

This ends a successful tenure at UNC for Longo, who has served as the program’s offensive coordinator since 2019. North Carolina finished in the top 3 in the ACC for yards-per-play in each of Longo’s four seasons.

North Carolina will now look for a new OC to help lead one of the most explosive offenses in the country. Quarterback Drake Maye is expected to return next season and could be a preseason favorite to contend for the Heisman Trophy.

However, the rest of UNC’s offense will likely need to be re-shaped. The Tar Heels are set to lose their two leading receivers to the NFL. They will also hope to show major improvement along the offensive line next season.

North Carolina will play Oregon in the Holiday Bowl on Dec. 28.
