North Carolina offensive lineman Cayden Baker is medically retiring from the game of football.
Inside Carolina was 1st to report that news on Thursday, citing a conversation with a team spokesman.
Baker hadn’t played much at Carolina during his career, but he was expected to be a depth option in 2023. UNC will now have to look toward other options on its offensive line.
He appeared in 22 games over the course of his 3 seasons with the Tar Heels. Last season, he played in all 14 of Carolina’s contests.
Baker was a 3
-star prospect in UNC’s 2020 recruiting class. He was the No. 490 overall player in that cycle, according to 247Sports Composite rankings.
Baker and the program have not yet announced any specifics regarding his medical retirement.
If North Carolina is going to replace Baker, it could do so on the transfer portal this spring. The NCAA’s next transfer portal window opens on May 1.
