North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye did not make the list of finalists for the Davey O’Brien Award.

USC quarterback Caleb Williams, Ohio State quarterback CJ Stroud, and TCU quarterback Max Duggan were named finalists for the award. For most of the season, Maye was trending in the right direction as a potential finalist for the award, but he missed out.

Maye was also a Heisman Trophy contender, but he likely fell out of the running following back-to-back losses to Georgia Tech and NC State. Even with his team’s recent string of losses, Maye played an integral role in North Carolina’s ACC Championship Game run.

In 12 games, Maye has passed for 3,847 yards, 35 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions. He is No. 4 in the country in passing yards and is tied for 4th in the country in passing touchdowns. In the loss to NC State, Maye passed for 233 yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 interception. He attempted 49 passes in the loss.

His numbers decreased a little bit in the last 2 weeks, but he had a marvelous regular season. Maye had 7 games with at least 3 passing touchdowns. Maye was also a factor in North Carolina’s running game with 629 rushing yards and 6 rushing touchdowns.

North Carolina will face Clemson in the ACC Championship Game on Saturday.
