North Carolina quarterback Sam Howell is officially moving on.

Howell made the announcement on Saturday afternoon in a letter to North Carolina fans and the Tar Heels’ program. Here’s a video of Howell reading the letter:

“These past three years, and especially the past few months, have been a whirlwind, but I have a lot of peace about the next chapter in my life,” Howell said in-part. “I’m excited to announce that I’ll be entering the 2022 NFL Draft. I’ll forever be grateful for my time here at Carolina, and for all the people that made it so special. Chapel Hill will always hold a special place in my heart.”

Howell’s North Carolina career came to an end earlier this week in a disappointing loss to South Carolina in the Mayo Bowl. Despite the sour ending, Howell turned in one of the best careers in the history of UNC’s football program.

Howell is the program’s all-time leader in passing yards and passing touchdowns. He produced three of the most prolific single seasons in North Carolina history.

As for the NFL, Howell could be one of the first quarterbacks taken in next year’s NFL Draft. He’s likely to be a Day 1 or a Day 2 prospect if he performs well during the pre-draft process.
