North Carolina received the top seed in ESPN’s early-season bracketology predictions.

The bracketology update had North Carolina as a No. 1 seed in the East Regional. The prediction had North Carolina taking on No. 16 Norfolk State in the opening round. North Carolina is off to a great start this season and will look to be one of the top teams heading into the NCAA Tournament.

To begin the season, North Carolina is undefeated with a 4-0 record. UNC won 3 of the 4 games by double digits. The win over Gardner-Webb came by 6 points, 72-66. In the last outing, North Carolina handled James Madison in a 80-64 win on Sunday.

North Carolina forward Armando Bacot recorded 19 points and 23 rebounds against the Dukes. This was Bacot’s 1st double-double of the season. Guard RJ Davis led the team in scoring against James Madison with 21 points. It was a strong home win for the Tar Heels.

North Carolina’s group of leaders will be instrumental in the team’s campaign to return to the Final Four in 2023. Hubert Davis is in his 2nd season as North Carolina’s head coach. He was previously an assistant coach at North Carolina for 9 seasons before he succeeded Roy Williams in 2021.

On Thanksgiving, North Carolina will take on Portland at the Phil Knight Invitational in Portland, Oregon.
