North Carolina’s ACC Tournament run ended on Thursday with a loss to Virginia in the quarterfinal round. The Tar Heels could not best the Cavaliers and lost 68-59.
North Carolina and Duke fans alike went to social media after the game to weigh in. North Carolina became the first AP preseason No. 1 team to miss the NCAA Tournament in the history of college basketball with the loss.
The only tournament that the Tar Heels are eligible for now is the NIT. Some fans predicted the Tar Heels to win the competition, while others urged North Carolina to not accept the bid.
One thing that cost North Carolina late in the 2nd half was missed free throw opportunities. The Tar Heels went to the line multiple times in the final minutes, but could not capitalize.
A few fans declared the 2022 season as one of the most disappointing in recent memory.
After making it to the final round of the NCAA Tournament last season, Hubert Davis could be heading for the NIT. Fans will be hoping that year three under Davis will have a much better outcome. It wouldn’t be a true North Carolina loss without some sad Michael Jordan pictures.
