North Carolina signee reportedly asks for release from letter of intent

North Carolina signee Simeon Wilcher has asked for a release from his letter of intent, according to a report.

247Sports’ Travis Branham was first to share that news on Tuesday afternoon. Wilcher has been committed to North Carolina since October of 2021.

Wilcher’s decision comes just 1 week after 5-star guard Elliot Cadeau opted to re-classify into the 2023 recruiting class. Cadeau is expected to slot into the Tar Heels’ starting lineup next season alongside returning guard RJ Davis.

Still, it’s a big loss for the Tar Heels. He was ranked as t

he No. 34 overall player and the No. 7 combo guard in the country, per 247Sports Composite rankings. He’s also the No. 4 player from the state of New Jersey.

North Carolina projects to have plenty of guard talent next season. The Tar Heels return Davis and Seth Trimble from last year’s team. They’ve also added Cormac Ryan and Paxon Wojcik via the transfer portal.
