North Carolina suffers disastrous loss at home vs. Pitt
North Carolina’s NCAA Tournament hopes took a massive hit on Wednesday night.
The Tar Heels got blown out by Pitt on their home floor, 76-67. This gives UNC its first Quad 4 loss of the season, which could have a devastating impact on its overall résumé.
North Carolina doesn’t have a Quad 1 victory, so it has been reliant on its wins vs. lesser opposition to build an NCAA Tournament case. Prior to tonight, North Carolina was 18-0 this season against teams outside of Quad 1.
Armando Bacot struggled to get involved offensively and didn’t make a bucket until the second half. He finished with 7 points and 8 rebounds. Caleb Love led the team with 19 points.
After the game, coach Hubert Davis struggled to explain the loss.
#UNC HC Hubert Davis was asked what happened and he took a good 10 seconds to begin his answer…
“…We didn’t play the way I hoped, anticipated, or thought we would play… We have so much to play for. So much motivate to compete and have fun. Just very disappointed."

This loss puts even more pressure on North Carolina’s matchup vs. Virginia Tech on Saturday. It would be a Quad 1 win for the Tar Heels, which likely will be necessary to make it to the Field of 68. The Hokies are also on the bubble and will be desperate to pick up a victory.
Tipoff is at 4:00 p.m. ET.
