North Carolina fell to Oregon in the Holiday Bowl 28-27 on Wednesday night.

The Tar Heels held a 10-point lead in the fourth quarter, but a pair of touchdowns from the Ducks ultimately decided the game. Bo Nix threw a game-winning touchdown pass on 4th and 2 with just 19 seconds remaining.

The loss is Carolina’s fourth consecutive defeat after the Tar Heels started the year with a 9-0 record. UNC still hasn’t won 10 games since the 2015 season.

Quarterback Drake Maye struggled a bit with his efficiency in this game, but he did throw a trio of touchdown passes. He also had 12 carries for 45 yards, which was second behind only Elijah Green’s 50-yard effort.

Without Josh Downs (opt out), Kobe Paysour was UNC’s leading receiver on the night. He caught seven passes for 98 yards in the loss.

Paysour is one of several key players on Carolina’s offense that is expected back in 2023. Andre Green Jr., George Pettaway, Omarion Hampton and Maye are expected to be a big part of that unit next season.

North Carolina finished the year with a 9-4 record.
