5-star forward GG Jackson announced his commitment to North Carolina on Wendnesday afternoon.
He made that decision in a ceremony at his high school. He picked the Tar Heels over other finalists such as Duke, Auburn, Georgetown, South Carolina, UMass and the G-League Ignite program.
Jackson is the No. 5 overall player in the class of 2023, according to 247Sports Composite rankings. He’s also the top player from the state of South Carolina.
Listed at 6-foot-9, Jackson profiles as a potential starter at the power forward spot in Hubert Davis’ offense. He’s a good shooter and can make plays off the bounce. He’s also a tremendous athlete for his s
ize and has one-and-done potential.
Jackson is currently in the class of 2023, but there’s been speculation he could re-classify to 2022. If that ends up happening, he could potentially take Brady Manek’s spot in UNC’s starting 5 next season.
But for now, he joins 5-star guard Simeon Wilcher in the class of 2023. The Tar Heels join Duke as the only program in the country so far with multiple 5-star commitments in that class.
