North Carolina is filling a position on its off-the-field staff with a reported hire from a Sun Belt program.
North Carolina is hiring South Alabama special teams coordinator and defensive assistant Jamael Lett as a special teams analyst, Matt Zenitz of On3 Sports reported
. Before South Alabama, Lett was a defensive backs coach at Akron and Samford.
Lett was a defensive back at Samford, and joined the Jaguars in 2021 after stints at Tennessee-Martin, Ohio, Samford and Akron.
He received a master’s degree from Tennessee Tech, and in 2019, was was selected to take part in the in t
he NCAA-NFL Coaches Academy, according to his South Alabama bio.
He coached the secondary at Samford from 2017-19, as the Bulldogs went 8-4 overall and 6-2 in the Southern Conference and qualified for the FCS playoffs after they beat 3 top-25 teams during the campaign. His efforts also helped Samford post a winning record the next season after they beat No. 8 Wofford and 17th-ranked East Tennessee State.
