North Carolina is set to wear special helmet stickers during its game on Saturday against Appalachian State as a show of solidarity with Tez Walker.

Walker transferred to North Carolina in January to be closer to his grandmother, Loretta Black, who is ill. Since he had transferred once before from N.C. Central — even though he did not play football there due to the team’s 2020 season being canceled due to the pandemic — Walker was forced to seek a waiver to make him immediately eligible.

The NCAA, though, denied the waiver request, drawing nearly universal criticism. And the Tar Heels will show their support for their teammate by wearing stickers with Walker’s jersey number, which you can see below:

Walker would have been a major addition to the Heels’ receiving corps. He made 58 catches for 921 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2022, being named to the MAC’s all-conference 1st team as a result. Instead, he won’t take the field until the 2024 season.

North Carolina and Appalachian State kick off at 5:15 p.m. ET, with the game televised on the ACC Network.
