My picks for North Carolina-Virginia

The first thing to consider with this game is Armando Bacot’s status. Bacot injured his ankle in Carolina’s win over Boston College on Wednesday night. He was able to return to the game, but didn’t look like his usual self. He also only played 18 minutes as Carolina blew out the Eagles. North Carolina is only a 2.5-point underdog to Virginia, which could suggest that Vegas expects Bacot to play. Still, he’s off the board for Underdog props for this quarterfinal matchup.

If Bacot is out or limited, look for Caleb Love to try to pick up the slack. The key word being “try,” as Love has struggled with his efficiency this season. Even against Boston College when he scored 22 points, it took him 20 shots to get there. In 2 matchups against Virginia this year, he shot just 6-of-25 from the field. Last season, he shot 8-of-23 in 2 matchups vs. the Cavaliers. Take the under on Love’s 14.5 points prop.

RJ Davis, however, has a much better history against Virginia. He scored 32 points on 22 shots against the Cavs in a pair of matchups this season. He’s also entering this game on a hot streak as he’s averaging 16.4 points per game on 51.7% shooting from the field over his last 5 games. Underdog has his prop at 13.5 points — a number he has risen over in 8 of his last 9 contests. Take the over on Davis’s points total.

The final pick is Reece Beekman over 8.5 points. This one goes against recent results a bit, as Beekman hasn’t cleared that threshold in his last 4 games. However, he scored 13 points in UVA’s win over Carolina back in January and 8 points against the Tar Heels in Chapel Hill last month. He put up those numbers despite going a combined 0-for-4 from the 3-point line. UNC’s perimeter defense leaves a lot to be desired, especially since Leaky Black will presumably be guarding Jayden Gardner.
