North Carolina’s Armando Bacot is in elite company after recent hot streak

Armando Bacot entered a very exclusive part of North Carolina’s record books over the weekend.

He scored 29 points in UNC’s blowout victory over Georgia Tech, marking the second straight game he’s reached that point total. As it turns out, only three other Tar Heels have accomplished that feat in recent memory.

The others? Two of them have their jerseys hanging in the rafters. The other is Bacot’s head coach.

Tyler Hasbrough was the most recent, and he was preceded by Antawn Jamison and Hubert Davis.

Earlier this week, Davis advocated for Bacot to win ACC Player of the Year. With the run Bacot is on, he may end up running away with that award.

“I feel like when I am playing at this high of a level, I could be the best player in the ACC,” Bacot told reporters after the win over Georgia Tech.

It’s not just the last two games, either. Bacot has r

ecorded a double-double in seven straight contests. Over that span, the Tar Heels are 5-2 overall and have a +60 point differential across four ACC games.

With Bacot playing at this level, North Carolina has an argument as one of the elite teams in the ACC. He’s averaging north of 18 points per game in UNC’s wins this season, but that number dips to 15.25 points on average in losses.

So far this season, the Tar Heels are 4-1 in conference play and are tied with Duke for second place. They’re set to face first-place Miami in a pivotal matchup on Tuesday. Tipoff is at 7:00 p.m. ET.
