Omarion Hampton helped North Carolina to a crucial 41-31 win over Miami this weekend in Chapel Hill.

That victory pushed Carolina to 6-0 on the season and ensured they would remain as one of three undefeated teams left in ACC play. Hampton was a big part of that effort, rushing for 197 yards against the Canes.

He earned a 90.4 grade from Pro Football Focus for his efforts. That makes him PFF’s highest-graded running back in the Power 5 for the entirety of Week 7.

Hampton nearly had his second 200-yard game of the season. He rushed for 234 yards in an overtime win vs. App State last month as well. He’s established himself as one of the top running backs in the country through the first half of 2023.

His performance vs. Miami is even more impressive given who it was against. Miami entered Week 7 with the ACC’s best rushing defense in terms of yards-per-carry. After facing Hampton, the Hurricanes dropped all the way back into a tie for 3rd in the ACC.

Hampton has 658 rushing yards this season, which ranks second in the ACC behind only Louisville’s Jawhar Jordan with 661 yards. However, Jordan has played one extra game compared to Hampton.

Hampton is fourth nationally in terms of rushing yards per game (109.67) amongst Power 5 running backs and first in the ACC.

North Carolina will face Virginia in Week 8.
