Report: Josh Downs remains injured for North Carolina’s Week 2 clash

North Carolina receiver Josh Downs is set to miss his second straight game with a knee injury.

Downs hurt his knee in UNC’s Week 0 win over Florida A&M. He’ll miss the Tar Heels’ Week 2 showdown with Georgia State, according to a report from ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

Downs is a major part of North Carolina’s offense. Last season, he caught over 100 passes for north of 1,300 yards and 8 touchdowns.

Last week, the Tar Heels’ offense was still able to thrive at App State even without their top offensive weapon. Kobe Paysour filled in for Downs and caught 8 passes for 92 yards and 1 touchdown.

North Carolina will need another big performance from Paysour on the road again in Week 2. Redshirt freshman quarterback Drake Maye has done a good job of spreading the ball around early in his collegiate career. Maye has 9 touchdowns and 0 interceptions through 2 games.

Kickoff is at 12 p.m. ET.
