Notre Dame received some tough news from the recruiting trail on Thursday night as 4-star offensive lineman Elijah Paige backed off his pledge to the Fighting Irish.

Here’s his announcement:

“I would like to thank the amazing staff at Notre Dame for the opportunity they offered and the time they spent recruiting me,” Paige wrote. “This decision has been very difficult. After many prayers and conversations with my family, I have decided to decommit form the University of Notre Dame.”

Paige is a Phoenix, Arizona, native and has been linked to USC. He had been committed to Notre Dame since June 10.

Paige is the No. 353 overall player and the No. 30 offensive tackle in the country, according to 247Sports Composite rankings. He’s also the No. 7 player from the state of Arizona.

Notre Dame still has commitments from 4 offensive linemen in this class: Charles Jagusah, Sullivan Absher, Sam Pendleton and Joe Otting.
