Notre Dame is making a move for one of the best prospects in the country.

5-star safety Caleb Downs announced on Thursday afternoon that he has locked in a visit to South Bend this summer. He’ll be visiting Notre Dame from June 10-12.

Here’s his announcement:

Simply put, Downs is one of the best prospects in the country regardless of position. He’s the No. 10 overall player in the class of 2023, according to 247Sports Composite rankings. He’s also the No. 1 safety in the country and the No. 1 prospect from the state of Georgia.

It likely helps Notre Dame’s pitch that it just produced a first-round safety into the NFL Draft in Kyle Hamilton. Safeties don’t often go as high as Hamilton did — No. 14 overall to the Baltimore Ravens.

Notre Dame is also building an elite recruiting class. The Fighting Irish already have 13 commitments in the class of 2023. The group ranks No. 1 nationally, per 247Sports Composite rankings.

However, there’s still a long way to go in Downs’ recruitment. He’s being targeted by programs like Georgia, Alabama, Clemson and Ohio State.

There is no timetable for his commitment.
