5-star safety Caleb Downs has set a date for his final decision.
Downs will announce his college choice on July 27. In addition to Notre Dame, he’s still considering Alabama, Florida State, Ohio State, Georgia, LSU, Florida, Oklahoma and Texas.
Notre Dame is believed to be in the mix here. The Fighting Irish received one of his official visits back in June. Downs also took an unofficial to South Bend back in the spring.
Downs is one of the top players in the country, regardless of position. He’s the No. 12 overall player and the No. 1 safety in the country for the class of 2023, according to 247Sports Composite rankings

He would become the first player from the state of Georgia to join Notre Dame’s 2023 recruiting class.
Notre Dame already has 20 commitments in this cycle. The group currently ranks No. 2 nationally behind Ohio State, according to 247Sports Composite rankings. However, Downs committing would push the Fighting Irish back into the top spot.
