Al Golden met with reporters in South Bend on Monday night.

Golden was asked about being linked to head coaching positions this offseason. Earlier this week, ESPN’s Pete Thamel linked Golden to the Syracuse head coaching vacancy. The Orange fired coach Dino Babers on Sunday after nearly 8 seasons with the program.

Golden, who has previously been the head coach at Temple and Miami, said right now he’s focused on helping get Notre Dame to 10 wins.

“I think the biggest thing right now is we got our hands full,” Golden said. “I mean, that’s it. It is all day, every day, trying to win as many games as we can. Obviously, we have a goal of winning 10. And to do that, we have to win this one. We have to find a way to win this one.

“So if names are being mentioned, it’s because of the success of the staff and the players. And that part of it is humbling.”

Golden has done an excellent job as Notre Dame’s defensive coordinator over the past couple of seasons. The Irish rank in the top 5 nationally of multiple key defensive categories entering Week 13.

Notre Dame will look to move to 9-3 on the season with a win over Stanford on Saturday.
