Anonymous NFL scouts give impression of Sam Hartman after 2022 season

Wake Forest quarterback Sam Hartman entered the transfer portal on Tuesday and has been linked to a potential future with Notre Dame.

Hartman is also weighing his professional options — he could opt to declare for the NFL Draft after a successful five-year stint in Winston-Salem.

ESPN’s Pete Thamel acknowledged that possibility

in a story on Hartman on Tuesday. However, according to anonymous NFL scouts, Hartman could improve his draft stock with a great season in a pro-style offense.

Here’s what Thamel’s story says about Hartman’s draft stock after the 2022 season:

NFL scouts project Hartman as a third-day draft pick — likely the sixth or seventh round — so the thought is that he can improve his stock with another year in college. ESPN reached out to three NFL scouts about Hartman, and none of them believed Hartman would get picked before the sixth round, if at all.

There’s a belief among the scouts that playing in a pro-style system would benefit Hartman’s NFL projection after playing in Wake Forest’s successful but unconventional slow mesh system.

Teaming up w

ith Notre Dame and offensive coordinator Tommy Rees could make sense for all involved. In South Bend, Hartman would be thrust into the spotlight as a top quarterback on a potential CFP contender.

For Notre Dame, it would mean upgrading its quarterback room with arguably the top passer to enter the portal this cycle.

Hartman is expected to make his decision next week, per Thamel’s report.
