Notre Dame running back Audric Estime is still thinking about his goal-line fumble against North Carolina back in Week 4.

He told reporters on Tuesday night that it was the first time he had ever lost the ball in a game.

“I couldn’t go to sleep that night,” Estime said, via On3’s Patrick Engel.

Of course, Estime’s fumble had relatively few consequences. It came with Notre Dame leading 45-26 late in the 4th quarter against the Tar Heels. UNC was able to score on its next possession, but the outcome was no longer in doubt. Still, it’s good for ball security to be a point of emphasis for the Fighting Irish going into the second half of the season.

It was a bittersweet end to one of the best games of Estime’s career so far. He carried the ball 17 times for 134 yards and 2 touchdowns. On the season, he has 54 carries for 264 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Notre Dame will be looking for a similar performance this weekend against BYU in Las Vegas.
