Notre Dame has landed a commitment from former Harvard defensive lineman Chris Smith.

Smith entered the portal this season after being named first-team all-Ivy League last year. He totaled 40 tackles, 5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks for Harvard last season.

Smith was previously committed to Minnesota. Here’s his announcement:

“I’d like to thank my family, teammates and coaches for supporting me during my time at Harvard,” Smith wrote. “Excited to finish my career at the University of Notre Dame.”

Smith a nice pickup for the Fighting Irish, who were looking for depth along the defensive line. Smith is listed at 6-foot-2, 293 pounds and should be a great fit up front.

He’s expected to arrive this summer and be an immediate contributor in Notre Dame’s front 7. He spent four years at Harvard, but did not play in the 2020 season due the pandemic. The Ivy League canceled the entire 2020 football season.

Smith has 1 year of eligibility remaining.
