Brian Kelly says Notre Dame fought flu bug prior to win over Virginia

Notre Dame had to fight through a bout with the flu prior to its 28-3 win over Virginia on Saturday.

According to head coach Brian Kelly, more than a dozen players were battling the flu in the lead-up to Notre Dame’s win over the Cavaliers.

N

otre Dame was still able to win comfortably over Virginia, who was playing without starting quarterback Brennan Armstrong (ribs). Kelly later added that no players tested positive for COVID-19.

The flu has been impacting more teams than just Notre Dame this season. Florida State quarterback Jordan Travis missed FSU’s game vs. North Carolina State in Week 10 due to the flu. However, he was able to bounce back quickly and had a g

reat game vs. Miami on Saturday.

For the Fighting Irish’s sake, hopefully this was the worst of it. Notre Dame is 9-1 and is preparing to face Georgia Tech in Week 12.

Kelly’s squad could find itself squarely in the mix for a College Football Playoff berth if they continue to win games. They’re expected to jump up to at least No. 8 when the newest rankings are revealed on Tuesday night.

Kickoff is at 2:30 p.m. ET on Saturday.
