When Brian Kelly left Notre Dame for the LSU job, some speculated he could be about to sign the biggest contract in the history of the sport.

And while that is true, the money isn’t as big as some originally thought. According to Sports Illustrated’s Ross Dellenger, Kelly’s deal is for 10 years and $100 million.

He’ll make $9M starting in 2022 with regular raises:

As of now, it’s unclear whether current Notre Dame coordinators Marcus Freeman and Tommy Rees will join Kelly at LSU. They’ve both reportedly been offered positions on Kelly’s new staff.

Kelly’s departure leaves Notre Dame in a difficult spot as it sits on the fringes of the College Football Playoff conversation. The Fighting Irish could end up with a top four spot depending on how conference championship games go this weekend.

Freeman and Cincinnati coach Luke Fickell are the early candidates for the job. Other names are expected to surface in the coming days.

The Early Signing Period for the 2022 recruiting class begins on Dec. 15.
