CBS Sports’ Jerry Palm has updated his bowl projection for Notre Dame.

He is projecting the Fighting Irish will head to the Gator Bowl to face Mississippi State.

Notre Dame has a long history with the Gator Bowl, but it has not been there in over 20 years. The Irish’s last appearance in that bowl was in 2002. Notre Dame’s only Gator Bowl victory came in 1976 against Penn State.

Notre Dame and Mississippi State have never met in football. The Bulldogs are led by coach Mike Leach and are bowl-eligible for the 13th consecutive year.

The Fighting Irish are playing well as the calendar moves toward mid-November. They’ve won six of their last seven contests, including four in a row.

Notre Dame could still improve its standing in the bowl picture with wins in its final two games. The Irish have games remaining vs. Boston College and USC.

That game vs. the Trojans could have major CFP implications for USC. Notre Dame has won four games in a row in that series.

Kickoff vs. Boston College next weekend is at 2:30 p.m. ET in South Bend.
