Chris Tyree, a running back-turned wide receiver who spent 4 seasons at Notre Dame before entering the transfer portal, will spend his 5th and final year of eligibility at Virginia.

Here’s how he announced the news on his X account on Tuesday:

As Tyree mentioned, he is returning close to home to wrap up his college career. He is from Chester, Va., just south of Richmond and less than 90 minutes from Charlottesville.

A 4-star all-purpose back recruit out of Thomas Dale High School in Chester and the No. 70 player in the country according to 247Sports’ composite rankings, Tyree ran for 496 yards and 4 touchdowns as a true freshman in 2020. He added totals of 222 and 444 yards as a sophomore and junior, respectfully, but eventually saw his role as a pass-catching back increase, making 48 catches for 396 yards and 4 touchdowns in that time span.

In 2023, Tyree made the switch to wide receiver and made 26 catches for a team-high 484 yards and 3 TDs. His 26 receptions were 3rd on the team.
