The news of Sam Hartman being linked to Notre Dame in the transfer portal has caused a stir for college football fans and media members.

On Tuesday, Hartman officially entered the transfer portal after 5 seasons at Wake Forest. His likely landing spot out of the transfer portal is Notre Dame, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

College football fans and media were quick to imagine Hartman’s potential at Notre Dame. Hartman would be able to follow the blueprint that former Wisconsin QB Jack Coan laid out in 2021. In Hartman’s final season at Wake Forest, he recorded 3,701 passing yards, 38 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. He finished his time at Wake Forest as the ACC’s all-time leader in passing touchdowns with 110 touchdowns.

With Hartman interested in Notre Dame, it could cause a shake-up in the quarterback room with Tyler Buchner, Steve Angeli, and other quarterbacks still on Notre Dame’s roster.

Hartman would theoretically be an upgrade over Drew Pyne, who transferred to Arizona State earlier this week. Pyne started 10 games for Notre Dame this season.
