College football fans, media react to Sam Hartman's reported interest in Notre Dame
The news of Sam Hartman being linked to Notre Dame in the transfer portal has caused a stir for college football fans and media members.
On Tuesday, Hartman officially entered the transfer portal after 5 seasons at Wake Forest. His likely landing spot out of the transfer portal is Notre Dame, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.
College football fans and media were quick to imagine Hartman’s potential at Notre Dame. Hartman would be able to follow the blueprint that former Wisconsin QB Jack Coan laid out in 2021. In Hartman’s final season at Wake Forest, he recorded 3,701 passing yards, 38 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. He finished his time at Wake Forest as the ACC’s all-time leader in passing touchdowns with 110 touchdowns.
With Hartman interested in Notre Dame, it could cause a shake-up in the quarterback room with Tyler Buchner, Steve Angeli, and other quarterbacks still on Notre Dame’s roster.
Hartman would theoretically be an upgrade over Drew Pyne, who transferred to Arizona State earlier this week. Pyne started 10 games for Notre Dame this season.
Here’s some of the best reaction to the news:
Notre Dame turns into a legitimate playoff contender with Sam Hartman at QB

Incredible move for Notre Dame!
I’ve talked all season about the Irish needing to upgrade the QB standard. Sam Hartman will be a top 10 QB in college football next season. Massive!

Huge news for Notre Dame.
The Irish are expected to land the all-time ACC total yards and passing TDs leader in Sam Hartman.
This 2023 team is going to be very fun to watch. https://t.co/2NFOclmbg5

The industry chatter on Sam Hartman to enter the transfer portal has been nonstop the last few days and really weeks. He's expected to move on from Wake Forest and enter the portal.
Notre Dame is the team that comes up most often with Hartman. But others will take a swing.

I won’t be happy until Notre Dame officially lands a commitment from a quarterback. That said, I think Sam Hartman realizes how much he could make in REAL NIL money with a successful season at Notre Dame 💰☘️

Sam Hartman and Tommy Rees feels like it would be the right marriage at Notre Dame. Hartman — a really talented passer — needs to play in a spread/pro-style system to garner NFL attention in '24.

With Sam Hartman having 1 year of eligibility left, he’d be at Notre Dame just in 2023.
Heading up to 2024, in theory, the Irish QB room would look like (in order of seniority):
Tyler Buchner
Steve Angeli
Kenny Minchey
CJ CarrThat’s a ton of talent. The future is bright.

Sam Hartman with an elite offensive line in front of him.
His numbers will be even more flagrant in South Bend.
Notre Dame buckle up. It’s gonna be a crazy fun ride.

I’m not a Notre Dame fan at all but I’m definitely happy to see Sam Hartman transfer there. He’s deserves all the shine he’s about to get. Go ahead and put them in the CFB and write him down as an early Heisman favorite
