Cormac Ryan plans to enter the transfer portal and maintain his college eligibility as he declares for the NBA Draft.
College basketball insider Jon Rothstein reported Friday that Ryan will test the draft waters but maintain his collegiate eligibility, a
nd should he ultimately decide to come back to school, he’s entering the portal as well. That means he could spend his final year outside of South Bend.
Ryan averaged 12.3 points per game this past season, and this decision came as Notre Dame is transitioning from Mike Brey to Micah Shrewsberry.
Ryan spent the last 4 years at Notre Dame, where he sat out in 2019-20 after transferring from Stanford and then played the last 3 seasons and averaged 10.1 p
oints per game over his 3 seasons with the Irish and was a full-time starter the last 2 seasons.
Ryan may be most remembered for the NCAA first round victory last year over Alabama as he led the Irish with 29 points on 10-for-13 shooting 7-for-9 from 3-point range, and had 6 rebounds. The career high 29 points was a Mike Brey-era high for a player in the NCAA tournament, while the 7 3-pointers set the school record for an NCAA tournament game.
