ESPN updated its bowl projections for Notre Dame and the rest of college football on Monday.

Notre Dame is coming off of a 45-24 win on the road at NC State in Week 2. The Fighting Irish are now 3-0 on the season and have won each contest by multiple scores.

Analysts Mark Schlabach and Kyle Bonagura are projecting Notre Dame to play in a New Year’s Six bowl game against a Big Ten opponent.

Schlabach predicts Notre Dame will play Penn State in the Cotton Bowl.

Notre Dame and Penn State have met 19 times previously. The season series is split evenly at 9-9-1. The teams last met in 2007, with the Nittany Lions winning that game in State College.

Notre Dame last played in the Cotton Bowl in 2018 as part of the College Football Playoff. The Irish lost to Clemson 30-3 in that game.

Bonagura is projecting Notre Dame to face off against Ohio State in the Orange Bowl.

Notre Dame is just 2-5 all-time against Ohio State. The Fighting Irish haven’t won a game in this series since 1936. Notre Dame’s last appearance in the Orange Bowl came at the end of the 1995 season. Notre Dame lost to Florida State in that game.

Notre Dame will face Central Michigan on Saturday as it attempts to move to 4-0 on the year.
