ESPN’s FPI has predicted the winner of a huge test for Notre Dame, as the No. 9 Fighting Irish host No. 6 Ohio State in a primetime matchup that could have early implications for both teams’ College Football Playoff hopes.

Notre Dame has gotten through the 1st third of its season unscathed, averaging 46 points in its first 4 games and allowing opponents just 11.75 an outing. Sam Hartman has yet to throw an interception versus 13 touchdowns. That said, the Buckeyes are a significant step up in class.

Recent games in this series have gone to the Buckeyes: in 1995 and 1996, the 2006 and 2016 Fiesta Bowls, and last year’s regular-season game in Columbus. In fact, the only wins the Irish have had over the Buckeyes came in 1935 and 1936.

Marcus Freeman’s team will look to turn back the clock in this one. However, ESPN’s FPI isn’t high on the Irish finally beating the Buckeyes, giving Notre Dame a 34.3 chance of victory.

Kickoff from South Bend is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on NBC.
