ESPN's FPI projects outcome in Notre Dame-South Carolina Gator Bowl matchup
Notre Dame is gearing up to face South Carolina in the Gator Bowl on Friday afternoon.
The Fighting Irish are slight favorites in this contest in Vegas. ESPN’s Football Power Index is a big believer in Notre Dame, however.
FPI is giving the Irish a 67.7% chance to come away with the win. A victory would push Notre Dame’s record to 9-4 in Marcus Freeman’s first season at the helm.
Notre Dame will be without a few key players for this contest. Quarterback Drew Pyne, tight end Michael Mayer, defensive lineman Isaiah Foskey and defensive lineman Jayson Ademilola are all out for various reasons.
However, South Carolina is also dealing with several absences at key positions. The Gamecocks have quarterback Spencer Rattler expected to start, but are limited at other spots on offense.
Notre Dame’s rushing attack could be the key to the game for the Irish. South Carolina ranked 13th in rushing defense this year in the SEC, ahead of only Vanderbilt.
Kickoff is at 3:30 p.m. ET on Friday afternoon.
