ESPN’s Pete Thamel makes pick in Notre Dame-USC clash

ESPN’s Pete Thamel has a pick in the Notre Dame-USC game.

Thamel is going with Notre Dame to pull off the upset. The Fighting Irish enter this game on a five-game winning streak and still have a lot to play for in this regular season finale.

Here’s Thamel’s analysis of the game, which he gave on the College GameDay Podcast this week

:

“This Irish engine churned out 44 points in the middle of a snow globe on Saturday,” Thamel said. “There’s something to be said for a hot team that’s playing well and finding its stride. Between Audric Estime, Logan Diggs and Chris Tyree, there are plenty of folks to run the ball behind those big tackles.

“But I’m going to take the Irish. They’ve given us plenty of reasons to believe both in t

he micro and, for Marcus Freeman, in the macro these past two months. Drew Pyne just needs to be plucky and not turn the ball over.”

On that same podcast, ESPN’s Rece Davis picked USC to win. Bill Connelly, however, agreed with Thamel and picked the Irish to pull off the upset.

Notre Dame has won four games in a row in this series. A victory would give Marcus Freeman two top-10 victories in his first year on the job in South Bend.

Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
