ESPN’s Pete Thamel gave an update on Notre Dame’s recruitment of former Wake Forest QB Sam Hartman on Monday.

During College GameDay on Monday morning, Thamel said Hartman is still expected to pick the Irish. He also said a decision could be announced at the end of this week.

“Sam Hartman, the best player in the portal at the quarterback position right now, I spoke with some sources this morning, he’s still expected to pick Notre Dame,” Thamel said. “The timeline on that, I was told, is going to be the end of this week.”

Hartman is one of the most accomplished players to enter the portal this offseason, regardless of position. He’s the ACC’s all-time leader in touchdown passes for a career. He’s also led Wake Forest to one of its best stretches in school history, including the Atlantic division title in 2021.

Notre Dame is also expected to return Tyler Buchner and Steven Angeli to the roster in 2023. The Irish will be welcoming in 4-star quarterback Kenny Minchey in their 2023 recruiting class as well.

Hartman has one season of eligibility remaining.
