Notre Dame is a double-digit favorite against Cal in South Bend on Saturday, but that may not be enough, per ESPN’s SP+ metric.

SP+ is predicting a 20-point victory for the Fighting Irish, which would be their first win of the season. SP+ is projecting a 32-12 final score in Notre Dame’s favor.

It’s worth noting that SP+ does not factor injuries into its projection, so Tyler Buchner’s season-ending shoulder injury is not accounted for here. Quarterback Drew Pyne will be making his first career start on Saturday against the Golden Bears.

Notre Dame is looking to avoid an 0-3 start to the season. The Fighting Irish lost to Marshall in Week 2, 26-21. They also fell at Ohio State back in Week 1, 21-10.

Notre Dame’s defense has performed well to start the season, with the exception of a couple key touchdown drives allowed in the fourth quarter of each of its losses.

Cal is 2-0 to start the season. The Bears have defeated UNLV and UC Davis in the first 2 weeks.

Kickoff is at 2:30 p.m. ET on Saturday.
