Former Notre Dame star Blake Wesley selected in 1st round of NBA Draft

Former Notre Dame freshman Blake Wesley is a San Antonio Spur.

The Spurs took Wesley with the 25th overall pick on Thursday night — a slight fall from where his range was expected to be entering draft night.

However, this is a great landing spot for Wesley. The Spurs have an excellent track record of development and Wesley should receive playing time as a rookie.

San Antonio also selected Baylor’s Jeremy Sochan and Ohio State’s Malaki Branham in the 1st round on Thursday night. That trio will now add to the youth movement that San Antonio is undergoing. The Spurs also have players like Dejounte Murray, K

eldon Johnson, Devin Vassell and Josh Primo already in the fold.

This result is the culmination of an impressive rise for Wesley. He was not expected to be a one-and-done prospect at Notre Dame, but impressed scouts enough with his shot-making and creation abilities.

As a freshman at Notre Dame, Wesley averaged 14.4 points and 2.3 assists per game.

Wesley is expected to play for the Spurs in Summer League next month.
