Notre Dame went 8-4 this season and is in line to play in a top bowl game later this month.

ESPN and CBS Sports issued their bowl projections earlier this week. As Championship Saturday has continued to unfold, other outlets have updated their projections.

According to The Athletic’s latest projections, Notre Dame is slated to play in the Gator Bowl against Mississippi State.

This would be Notre Dame’s fourth all-time appearance in the Gator Bowl. However, its last trip was 20 years ago — back in 2002. Notre Dame’s only win in the Gator Bowl was back in 1976.

Notre Dame and Mississippi State have never met in football.

The Bulldogs went 8-4 this season, including a victory over Ole Miss in the Egg Bowl on Thanksgiving. They were ranked No. 24 in the country by the College Football Playoff selection committee entering championship weekend.

Notre Dame will be playing its bowl game without starting quarterback Drew Pyne, who entered the transfer portal earlier this week. The Irish could be down to one scholarship quarterback — true freshman Steve Angeli — for this game.

Notre Dame will learn its official bowl destination on Saturday afternoon.
