Former Notre Dame linebacker Jamir Jones was released by the Pittsburgh Steelers Wednesday morning. On the surface, this move makes little sense, as Jones is a strong reserve LB option for the Steelers, which have a thin LB corps as it is right now.

This could mean the Steelers are planning on pursuing an LB such as Devin White or are looking to re-sign Bud Dupree. Jones, who is 24-years old, signed a 1-year contract with the Steelers on Feb. 27. Now, it seems the Steelers are shifting elsewhere.

Jones has amassed 20 tackles, 1 pass deflection and a pair of QB hits across his 2 seasons in the league, making 1 start for the Steelers last season.  He was mostly a special teams player last season.

Jones went undrafted out of Notre Dame in 2020 and has played for Pittsburgh, Houston, LAR and Jacksonville.
