The 2022 recruiting cycle is all but over — except for one notable prospect.

4-star running back Di’Bran Payne originally signed with Indiana, but the Hoosiers released the talented back from his national letter of intent back in March.

As a result, Payne is being courted by a few major programs. One of his top options appears to be Notre Dame, as he’s set to visit South Bend this weekend.

That’s according to a report from

Payne requested a release from his NLI after Indiana running backs coach Deland McCullough left the Hoosiers for Notre Dame. McCollough’s presence on the Fighting Irish’s staff should give them a great chance at landing Payne’s services.

He’s also visiting Kentucky this week prior to making a decision.

Payne is the No. 22 running back in the country for the class of 2022, according to 247Sports Composite rankings. He’s also the No. 10 player from the state of Ohio.

Payne would join a talented, yet inexperienced running back room at Notre Dame. Kryen Williams got most of the rest over the past two seasons, but he has moved on to the NFL. Chris Tyree and Logan Diggs, amongst others, are expected to compete for playing time this offseason.

Notre Dame’s 2022 recruiting classes was one of the best in the country. The class ranks No. 7 in the country, per 247Sports Composite rankings.
