Senior defensive lineman Jacob Lacey is leaving Notre Dame.

Lacey is no longer a member of the football team and intends to transfer after the season, according to coach Marcus Freeman. He announced that news on Thursday afternoon.

This is Lacey’s 4th year with the program. He’s consistently been a rotational piece for the Fighting Irish. He recorded 2 sacks in Notre Dame’s win over Cal earlier this season. He entered that game with just 0.5 sacks in his career.

Lacey played in only 4 games this season, so he could maintain his eligibility with a redshirt year. Because of the pandemic season in 2020, Lacey could have 2 years of eligibility at his next destination.

Lacey was listed as a backup to Jayson Ademilola on Notre Dame’s most-recent depth chart, which was published on Tuesday. Senior Chris Smith is listed as the third-stringer.

He exits his Notre Dame career with 6.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks across parts of 4 seasons.

Notre Dame will face BYU in Las Vegas on Saturday.
