Marcus Freeman had good news on Thursday regarding the health of defensive lineman Howard Cross III.

Freeman said Cross was able to practice on Wednesday and is expected to play vs. Stanford this weekend. He’s been battling an ankle sprain and did not play vs. BYU.

Cross is a key member of Notre Dame’s defensive line. He has 23 total tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and 1 sack in 4 games so far this season.

Notre Dame is suddenly a bit thin on the defensive line due to Cross’ injury and Jacob Lacey’s departure. Lacey decided to depart the program last week and maintain his year of eligibility.

Notre Dame did receive some bad injury news on Thursday as well. Senior linebacker Bo Bauer is out of the season with a knee injury he suffered in practice on Tuesday. Bauer is the second Notre Dame captain to go out with a season-ending injury this year, joining receiver Avery Davis.

The Fighting Irish will look to improve to 4-2 on the season this weekend against Stanford. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. ET.
