Marcus Freeman has done a bit of tinkering with his assistant coaching staff this offseason. An understatement, of course, what with Tommy Rees leaving, the Andy Ludwig saga unfolding the way it did, and a new offensive coordinator being found on the current staff.
The Notre Dame head coach had a few more changes to share Wednesday when he met with reporters. According to The Athletic’s
Pete Sampson, running backs coach Deland McCullough now also holds the title of run game coordinator. Corners coach Mike Mickens has also been given the title of defensive run game coordinator.
With Gerard Parker and Al Golden set t
o coordinate the offense and defense, respectively, those new titles for McCullough and Mickens would typically mean a small raise was awarded.
McCullough is entering his 2nd season with the program. He was the running backs coach with the Kansas City Chiefs for 3 years and the Indiana Hoosiers’ running backs coach for a year before joining Freeman’s staff.
Mickens is entering his 4th year with the Fighting Irish.
