Marcus Freeman praised Notre Dame wide receiver transfer Kaleb Smith on Monday night.

Smith recently transferred from Virginia Tech to Notre Dame. Smith previously spent the past 5 seasons at Virginia Tech and entered the transfer portal in December.

While speaking to the media ahead of Notre Dame’s Gator Bowl game, Freeman had glowing remarks about Smith as a wide receiver.

“He’s going to be a huge addition to our offense, to that wide receivers room,” Freeman said. “He’s a guy that comes with experience … but also brings the length, the size that will be an addition to that room. A sense of maturity. I’m excited for him to get here and for what he can do.”

Smith will be looking to make an impact in his 1st and only season at Notre Dame. In 2022, Smith recorded 37 catches, 674 receiving yards, and 3 touchdowns in 10 games. He made 9 starts for the Hokies in the 2022 season.

He finished his time at Virginia Tech with 74 receptions, 1,143 receptions and 7 touchdowns in 5 seasons. Smith had his single-season high in receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns in 2022. For the 2023 season, he will hope to add to his strengths in the passing game.

Notre Dame will end the season against South Carolina in the Gator Bowl on Friday.
