Marcus Freeman updates injury situation for Notre Dame ahead of Tennessee State
Notre Dame will be without defensive tackle Gabe Rubio for “a couple weeks” after suffering a knee injury in the season-opening win against Navy.
Head coach Marcus Freeman shared the news with reporters Monday morning.
“Just a knee injury, so he’s gotta get a couple things fixed in his knee, but he’ll be out a couple of weeks,” Freeman said.
Freeman added that was the only injury the team had from the first game of the season.
Rubio was credited with one tackle in the final box score. According to early tracking data from Pro Football Focus, he was on the field for 19 snaps against Navy, mostly used in run support. For what it’s worth, Rubio still appeared as the backup to Howard Cross III on the depth chart Notre Dame shared Monday.
The 6-foot-5 Rubio had 17 tackles and four tackles for loss last season in a reserve role.
Notre Dame hosts Tennessee State on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET on NBC.
