Notre Dame coach Marcus Freeman gave an update on the program’s QB situation for the Gator Bowl on Sunday night.

With Drew Pyne entering the transfer portal, it seemed the Irish would be down to just one healthy scholarship QB on the roster in Steve Angeli.

But Freeman clarified that Tyler Buchner, who began the year as Notre Dame’s starter, has been “full go” in practice this week and is expected to be ready to play vs. South Carolina.

Freeman also mentioned walk-on quarterback Ron Powlus III as a potential option vs. the Gamecocks.

If Buchner starts, it will be his first game action since suffering a shoulder injury against Marshall back in Week 2.

This is Notre Dame’s first trip to the Gator Bowl since 2002. The Fighting Irish will be facing a dangerous South Carolina team that ended the year with big upset wins over Tennessee and Clemson.

Kickoff is at 3:30 p.m. ET on Dec. 30.
