Michael Mayer made the cut for Mel Kiper Jr.’s latest prospect rankings.

Mayer was ranked No. 20 on the 25-player list. He was the only Notre Dame player to make the cut.

Here’s some analysis from Kiper on Mayer’s place in the rankings:

“NFL teams want tight ends who can stretch the deep middle of the field — and block well enough to line up next to offensive tackles. That’s Mayer, who can be a force in the red zone. Linebackers simply can’t cover him (and safeties struggle with his size). He has a wide catch radius and could produce as a pass-catcher in the NFL. He’s a complete player.”

Mayer is coming off of back-to-back seasons of 800+ yards for Notre Dame. He was the primary option for Drew Pyne in the Irish’s passing game in 2022 and was a finalist for the Mackey Award.

Mayer was the 1st of 3 tight ends to make Kiper’s top 25. Oregon State’s Luke Musgrave and Utah’s Dalton Kincaid also made it into the top 25.

He’ll have more opportunities to increase his draft stock this spring at the NFL scouting combine.
