Michael Mayer sets all-time program record in first half vs. Syracuse

Michael Mayer has etched his name in the Notre Dame record book.

The 6-foot-4 junior became the program’s all-time leader in receiving yards for a tight end during the game against No. 16 Syracuse.

After the loss to Stanford, Notre Dame quarterback Drew Pyne previously spoke of getting the big target more involved in the offense.

“I think Mike is a great target,” Pyne said

. “He’s a great player, and defenses have a way to try to combat that. I think when they do, like you said, I’ve got to go and find other guys, and I think there were times that tonight where I could have done that. I’m just g

oing to learn from it, come back and execute every day at practice this week and just come back with head down and work.”

Mayer entered this contest with 44 receptions for 526 yards and 6 touchdowns this season. Prior to the game, Mayer had amassed 157 receptions for 1,816 yards and 15 touchdowns for his Notre Dame career.

Notre Dame has won the last four meetings in the matchup and lead the all-time series 7-3 against Syracuse.
