Notre Dame’s Michael Mayer has set the program record for most receptions in a season by a tight end.

Mayer now has 64 receptions this season, which sets the record. He caught 9 passes for 105 yards in Notre Dame’s 45-14 win over Stanford on Saturday.

Mayer has become a huge part of Notre Dame’s offense this season. He has 768 yards and 5 touchdowns this year, which are both narrowly second on the team behind Kevin Austin.

Assuming Mayer plays in Notre Dame’s bowl game, he will likely crack the top 10 in receptions for a single season in Notre Dame history. Rhema McKnight caught 67 passes in 2006 and is currently 10th on the all-time single season list. Michael Floyd’s 100 receptions in 2011 is the record.

Notre Dame is 11-1 this year with its lone loss coming against Cincinnati. The Fighting Irish are just outside of the College Football Playoff conversation, but could find a way in depending on the results of next weekend.
